It's messed up too in that you know when confronted the dude isn't going to be like, 'I was feeling petty,' and instead will lie with some shit like, 'I dunno what the problem is. It made sense to me.' And that gets uncomfortably close to the beginnings of some gaslighting. Bc a reasonable person knows someone who otherwise is generally rational and smart knows better. So she knows this was an act of petty vengeance. But that rational reasoning is being treated like she is hostile or suspicious and willfully placing bad intentions on him. So she either has to accept his lie, make an even bigger deal to get him to admit it (which is all the more emotionally draining in an already emotionally exhausting situation), or question her own reasoning/logic. And that last one is very dangerous territory
